The last few days have been pretty exciting! I just talked with Tommy Wheeldon Jr!
So as you may or may not know, my dad and I are in the virtual newsroom, so we can ask coaches and players questions about the game. So earlier this week I got the chance to talk with Tommy Wheeldon Jr, for the first time, and when he talked, you could see that he cared about every question so much, he answers honestly and is so insightful and I felt took the opportunity to turn it into a teaching moment – what a great coach!
So, you can see what I asked in the previous match where Elliot Simmons did a great job but in the upcoming game, I wanted to ask him about what he wanted to see from his team in the 5-10 minutes of the game. I was going to ask him about his potential lineup but then I took too long so I didn't get the question on but maybe next time.
Check out what Tommy Wheeldon Jr said in the Press Conference:
I loved that he talked in such detail about the role of the deep-lying playmaker, or the “Regista” as it's known in Italian football. He compared Elliot Simmons to two of the best deep-lying playmakers, Toni Kroos and Xabi Alonso.
If you want to understand the role of the Regista better, check out this short video that explains the role in detail:
Here's what Tommy Wheeldon Jr. said about our question from the newsroom on Twitter:
One of many benefits of having our own 🇨🇦 domestic league, is the opportunities it creates for this generation & more importantly our next.— Tommy Wheeldon Jr (@tommywheeldonjr) August 22, 2020
I loved the intelligent question(s) asked in yesterday’s press conference by this young journalist @cplfever1 👏

I thought that was really cool! I also got a mention in an offical article on the canpl.ca website! You can check out that article here.
Now because 2 of my favourite teams are matching up this coming Sunday, we decided to break down the squad and have a discussion on what we think will happen. You can listen our discussion here.
What are your thoughts? Do you agree or disagree.
